Create and Mount an NFS Share
Shared File Storage lets multiple instances read and write the same file system concurrently over NFS. The share's endpoint lives on I/O Cloud's internal services network, so your instance needs to be connected to internal platform services first.
Prerequisites
- Connected to internal platform services — add a host route for the Shared File Storage prefix,
10.0.5.128/25, when you get to that step. - The OpenStack CLI installed and configured.
Steps
Checklist: None
Create the share
bash
openstack share create --name <share-name> NFS <size-in-GB>Grant access
Shares only support IP-based access rules — there's no secret/token option. Use the outbound address from your services router, not your instance's private IP:
bash
openstack router show svc-router -c external_gateway_info # the address to use below
openstack share access create <share-name> ip <that-address>Mount it
- Find the export location:bash
openstack share export location list <share-name> - Mount it on your instance:bash
sudo mount -t nfs4 <export-location> /mnt/<mount-point>
Troubleshooting
- Access denied on mount: the address on your access rule is almost always the culprit — it must be your
svc-router's external gateway address (SNAT source), not your instance's private IP. Re-check withopenstack router show svc-router -c external_gateway_info. - Mount hangs / times out: confirm the host route from Connect to Internal Platform Services is present and the instance has renewed its DHCP lease since it was added.
